 I ordered this book after playing the game for about an hour because I knew right away that the artwork put into this game had to be something special.This book is very beautiful as you would expect from such a gorgeous game. I am a huge fan of "Art of" books and I own about 10 or so different ones. The cover is very attractive how Aloy's silhouette is glossy and the surrounding background is matte. I tried to show this in the video.The book shows off artwork of all the characters/tribes from the games, the machines and the environments. The character designs are very detailed. I was slightly disappointed in the environmental work, which is what I was looking forward to most. Some of the designs were created at a smaller size and when they blew them up for the book they got a little chunky. Only a few images seemed chunky though. The style used for the environments wasn't my favorite. It looked like they used a lot of reference images/textures layered in Photoshop rather than being 100% drawn. This makes total sense from a design standpoint to save time/money etc, but its not as pretty to look at. I'm not a digital artist, so I can't say for sure, this might be a common technique, but this has never stood out to me with a lot of other work i've seen. Its still beautiful and very imaginative, so I'm not nocking any stars for it.I paid $24 for this book, and I don't regret it at all. I'm not sure if I'd pay the full $40 though. I guess i'm just cheap.Anyway, highly recommended.

This art book is gorgeous. Very detailed photos, and also gives you an insight into the direction that was taken with the monsters, and campaign. I haven't played through more than 2 hours of the game, but so far, the book is as visually stunning as the game is. If you're looking for a good coffee table book, or something to just learn more about the development process for the artwork of Horizon: Zero Dawn, this is the book to get.It is also more fleshed out than the art book that comes with the Collector's Edition. I do not have this edition, but my friend brought his over last night and we compared them.My pictures were taken in Low Light on an iPhone 6S+, so they're a little grainy.

 Finally, Guerrilla Games have decided to release an artbook to go with their newly release game. The only other artbook I have from them was Killzone Visual Design and that was really good. It's good to see that they have maintained the really high standards with Horizon Zero Dawn.This 192-page hardcover is filled with gorgeous concept artworks. There are designs for all the characters from the different tribes, enemy designs and of course locations. It's kinda refreshing to see tribal designs for a change among all the sci-fi and fantasy concepts. There's of course a slight plot twist as the story goes on so you might want to go through the book only after you have completed the game.The artworks are incredibly detailed. The designs look great. The scenes are well lit and beautifully painted. There's some speed painting and photo-bashing going on but the result always look believable. There's the right amount of detail for areas that matter. The artworks are also printed large whenever possible. Downside is in some cases, there's pixelation but I don't think it's really a big deal as long as there aren't too many pieces like that.Typical staff commentary on the design is also included.Overall, it's a video game artbook that's worth the money. It's great to see something different from characters in space suits or armour with their high-tech sleek space guns.If you're wondering about the orange splash on my cover. Fantastic artbook, definitely one of the best artbookS Titan Books has ever done. It has lots of crazy beautiful post apocalyptic environment art and quite alot of character art. What surprised me pleasantly was the section about the machines. They are quite frankly the main reason anybody was interested in this game and this artbook certainly delivers lots of it. Over 24 pages of these machines were a joy to look at and read about. This is most definitely the best artbook Titan Books has ever released. The little 48 page Dark Horse artbook that came with the collectors edition was a little taste of what the full sized artbook might bring and Iam so incredibly happy I got it, it's one of the best artbooks on top of my shelf currently. If you're enthralled by the game, you must definitely own this artbook full of beautiful art pieces. Shame the limited edition had this uninteresting lithograph / art print, I hoped that it would have that beatiful art print that is included in the thunderjaw collection. Nevertheless it's a fantastic artbook packed with jawdropping and exquisite art. Guerilla games definitely delivered once again.

This is a well-crafted "Art of" book with vibrantly colored and highly polished artwork. My only complaint is it could have used more concepts for the machines since they are a major component of the game. But don't let that keep you from buying this book, it is clearly one of the best in my collection and definitely one you don't want to miss out on.

This artbook is fantastic. The art is simply beautiful and you really get a lot of bang for your buck. Whereas alot of art books show snippets of art with large white boxes around everything, this book is literally filled edge to edge with art. They might put in a bit of text here and there in empty space but you massive pictures with fine details and everything. The art is diverse with landscapes, concept design, etc. All in all, probably one of the best art books I've ever seen.

About the Author

John Bergsma is a theology professor at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He served as a Protestant pastor for four years before entering the Catholic Church in 2001 while pursuing a doctorate specializing in the Old Testament and the Dead Sea Scrolls from the University of Notre Dame. In addition to teaching scripture at Franciscan, Bergsma is a frequent guest on Relevant Radio's Drew Mariani Show and Sacred Heart Radio's Son Rise Morning Show. He speaks regularly at conferences and parishes nationwide. Bergsma has written for numerous academic and popular publications. His popular books include Bible Basics for Catholics, New Testament Basics for Catholics, and A Catholic Introduction to the Bible: Old Testament. This bookexplains very well the five main books within the collection of Psalms, so that when you pray, say Psalm 72 aboutthe majesty of the king, you can put it in context of the ups and downs of the trajectory of the overall Psalter. Thereis also a lot of helpful biographical information about David, the protagonist of the Psalms. Bergsma gives theimportant reminder that David is even more important than Moses, because after all Jesus is the Son of Davidnot the Son of Moses, although he is also a new Moses as well.John Bergsma is obviously an amazing teacher, because almost everybody I've ever met from Steubenville eitherraves about him explicitly or shares his ideas about the many covenants in the history of salvation, with Adam,Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and Jesus and the new covenant and ourselves. I'll be honest, I guess you haveto be there, because he's good but for me his books and lectures don't really capture him.One difficulty I had was how he says "these were by David" or "Moses wrote this one". Maybe the purpose andlength of the book didn't allow more detail or exposition of the scholarly consensus or positions. I actually do believethat David was behind many of the Psalms, and the fact that Psalm 90, one of my favorites, is attributed to Moses isan enormously helpful reminder. I always gave the critical scholars a lot of challenges, but when we're used tothe world of historical criticism it's a bit jarring to make such a jump with little explanation.

This book was fantastic! I wanted to read it because, I'm embarrassed to admit, I have a difficult time connecting with the Psalms and I was hoping this would help.It definitely delivered.He teaches a good, basic history from the various covenants to why Kind David is the most important Old Testament figure (not Moses!) . He also shows how many of the Psalms point to the New Testament happenings and to Jesus, the Son of David.He gives five 'must read' psalms from each book, points out that no matter what our mood, there's a Psalm for it (with a handy dandy chart at the end) and he has suggestions for how to read them.The book is complemented with stick figure drawings that do a great job bringing the point home for us visual learners.I could not put this book down. It was a page turner. I read it over the weekend.It's great! Read it. It's like getting a mini-course at Steubenville on the cheap (he teaches there and I can see why he's such a popular teacher!).Totally going to read the other two in the series now.

I used to be of the opinion that the psalms were a bunch of random hymns used in the Jewish liturgy whereas reading the entire book would be like reading the entire hymnal in the pews at church. In the past when reading them, I classified them in buckets such as joyful, angry, and sad.However, after reading this book, I now understand that there is an overarching narrative going on. Depending on where the psalm is in the narrative of the Davidic kingdom, I now know why the psalmist was joyful, angry, or sad and how that relates to Christ and us as Christians. This book has really changed the way I see the psalms and I highly recommend it.

This introduction to the Psalms is so very enlightening. I enjoyed his compacted way of going through salvation history. This gave a great background so that when he covered the Psalms it put it in the context that could be understood better. I found Illuminating the five different 'books' of the Psalms. I also loved his illustrations and drawings which, while kind of corny, I found actually helpful. I highly recommend this book. I think it would be perfect as part of a diaconate program.

I have prayed, or read, the Psalms for about 8 years on almost a daily basis. I knew they were good for me, but I never read a good introduction or summary of what I was praying and reading. This is an excellent introduction and summary: its not long, its not too academic, it shows you the threads running through the whole Book of Psalms, it presents a plot arc through the book, and gives general groupings of psalms.I liked it so much I will reread it many times, and now want to try Bergsma's other books: if he writes this well on this topic, his other writings will be worth the money.

A little book that like a key opens a biblical-theological insight into the relationship between the themes of the Old and New Covenants (Hebrew Scripture and the New Testament). Simple second person narrative with many stick figure illustrations that did prove helpful.

Absolutely loved this book - It was recommended for our Bible study. We did his book on Psalms next and are now starting his book on the New Testament. I have learned so much and wish I had exposure to this information in my younger years. Easy to read and simple to understand.

I was a history major in college and currently teach middle school social studies. I find all of these books historically accurate and fun to read. My 10 year old son loves to read them at bed time. We usually take turns reading them and then I find him looking over all the illustrations for hours. They are a great resource to have in the classroom. Some of my ESOL students enjoy looking over them since they are filled with images that tell a story all on their own. Many of my students who finish their assignments early will pick these books up from the book shelf to read.

You can tell the difference between someone who has studied history and writes a children's book and someone who hasn't a clue how to find information. Unfortunately, Macdonald doesn't provide a bibliography at all or address where she got her information so I had to take off one star. However, her information seems quite solid and I love the way the book is laid-out with the life journey of one woman into slavery and her experiences there. There are obviously several of the less pleasant things left out of this book such as sexual slavery, but it did contain more reality than I had expected for a book at this level. The sidenotes are great and they actually give you the advice the cover of the book promises. There are also hints for the younger audience that things are not simple, even something they've been taught is an evil, is actually quite varied and complicated by gender, race, age, skill, and personality.

I love this series! Several of the "You Wouldn't Want to Be...." books are on the shelf of our class "history library." The kids love the comic book appearance. I love the fact that they're learning great information!

So excited to re-find and receive this before an international flight! Pages are perforated, but it doesn't work to tear them out one at a time, the grid and coordinating clues are seen when the book is open flat, so if you tore a page out, it would be clues from one exercise and the grid from another. Pages seem a little thin, use a pencil or ball point pen, no felt tips.

Super Fun! Challenging for hours of entertainment.
