Except for the work of Steve McCurry and Jose Villa I don't follow professional photographers; I feel very few photographers as McCurry and Villa have this pristine way to tell stories in their personal language, so when I knew about this book I wanted so much to read it. What a surprise, the book is quite professional and clear in its presentation and has make me grow in the way to understand the art of Jose Villa's wonderful portraits, it is more than a technical book. Each photograph has a succinct explanation with the reason of the photo and the technical data, so you can see how the sharp mind and the artist intuition unite create a very particular world. Each chapter is very useful as I think it can be applied to each service and profession so I am thankful to have read how a skilled professional gets to be efficient and at the same time true to himself.After having learned and seeing so much beauty I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Jose Villa's fine art wedding photography comprised of three parts. In the first part, Villa discusses about his style. He shares his preference on light, exposure, color and composition. The second part discusses on a typical western style wedding: getting ready, ceremony, bridal & family portrait and so on. The last part talks about marketing.In the first and the second part, Villa emphasizes on creating a consistent photography style. His style can be created by using specific gears (he uses medium format film camera and 80mm f/2 lens most of the time). As a result, most of his images has shallow depth of field and pastel color. He also suggest that color, composition, exposure should be consistent.Throughout the book, there are many Jose Villa's signature style photos. Most photos has shallow depth of field, semi-posed, over exposed and has pastel color. I also love that Villa shares his real-life mistakes and how he handle it.In the last part of the book, Jose share his marketing approach. It is a straightforward tips and quite obvious. For example he discusses the plus and minuses on marketing media such as magazine advertisement, website, blog, etc. He also share tips about pricing and how to get business referral.Overall, I enjoy reading and looking at the photos and layout design. However, I feel the content (text) is very basic and light. More experienced photographers who like to learn in-depth about wedding photography techniques should look for other book.After reading the book, it is tempting to copy Jose Villa's style. But I think, it is better to use the book as an inspiration to design your own photography style.

This is a good book. It is full of information...but all of which might be tainted. I would assume that all of what Lindeberg is writing about is about people who were studied while in glycolysis, since that is the world we know. How foods and other things we ingest affect our bodies must be different when we live in a state of ketosis, which is the state of metabolism we evolved to be in. Lindeberg also glances over cereal lectins, which I believe are the bane of humanity (as well as grain fed stock animals - can you imagine a world without grain fed animals? The green footprint for grass fed would be so much smaller!!!!). Without grains most of the planet would be better off as far as diet is concerned. Anyway, this is a nice read and does go into detail about the dangers of sugars, and that in itself is worth a lot.

At 76 years of age I read this book with a lot of past history. Dr. Lindeberg convinced me that I was eating way too much cheese. That perhaps I should be eating none at all. Secondly, that my eating of whole wheat crackers and bread along with the dairy products might well be a good part of the reasons I had high blood pressure, was over weight, and was prediabetic. Now, can I at this ripe old age change my eating habits? Time will tell but he has convinced me to try and I have added more fruit to my diet and am lowering the amount of whole wheat.Dr. Lindeberg does not set out to convince you of the above and he appears not to in anyway gain by your conversion. He is rather just a 'dumb' scientist pointing out with 2034 references why the average Western man's diet leads the Western man to the diseases mentioned above. And I in the above have just simplified what he writes in pointing out those things that apply most to me of his well thought out expose.He has arrived at his learned hypothsis by comparing the diet and diseases of primitive cultures that have diets more in keeping with man's evolutionary past, with the diets and diseases of Western man. He then has shown the scientific background for the conclusions he has drawn. There are only 230 pages of writing, plus glossary and references. It is in a dry but very readable (well with some checking on the meaning of words) text that should be on anyones book list that wants to better understand the effects of diet on the human body. It is a must, in my opinion for anyone in the medical or nutrition professions. Forget all those diet books; read this book first and then figure out where you need to go next. This book in time should become a classic

I had read some books dealing with the Paleo-diet style. I also have a personal library with more than 200 books, whose subjects are in one or other way, related with the one in this book (say anthropology, evolution, primatology, nutrition and medicine). I can only say that this one is a really informative book, truly worked, plenty of wisdom and real science, that is, written with a sceptical point of view and with an interest in trying not to be biased at all. It's insightful and thoughtful. I highly recommend its reading if you're one who believe in evolution as the real tool for understanding nutrition. Nutrition is just an inseparable part from the ecosystem, and humans are not different from other animals. If nutrition in zoos is seen as a scientific issue, how is that human nutrition is seen as a political, social and economic arrangement? Once one read this book his/her live changes forever, because one cannot simply think of those colourful card box full of grain and dairy derived stuff as food. One starts looking at those edibles very different from food, from human food and its real meaning.I reiterate my recommendation of reading this profound research. It doesn't mind you're a medical doctor or practitioner, an anthropologist or a mere human being who seeks light in the messed nutrition world, this is one of the few fresh books which deserves a read. No fad; no preaching; only science, true science, written in a readable way and with a humble and friendly style.MartinPS: If you read and liked this book, then you could be interested in this one (albeit dealing with a quite different subject): The Biology of Human Longevity:: Inflammation, Nutrition, and Aging in the Evolution of Lifespans.

Dr. Lindeberg is a leading figure in the paleolithic diet world, and arguably the most knowledgeable person alive on diet and health in Papua New Guinea. He lead the Kitava study, which is one of the most informative and complete characterizations of any traditionally-living population to date.The book touches on many "Western diseases" and their possible dietary causes. Nearly every factual statement is extensively referenced. The book contains over 2,000 references. The book is a gold mine of references. Lindeberg is a consummate skeptic, a treatment he gives his own theories as well as those of others. This is a must-read book for any serious student of diet and health who has a scientific or medical background.Although it's a paperback, the paper and print are top quality. I felt guilty marking on it and folding over pages.For the Kitava study aficionados, the book contains some previously unpublished data.

By JMP "Firefighter/EMT"This book is full of itself! It's riddled with typographic errors and presents facts on too many different levels of intellectual comprehension. In some instances it presents copious amounts of hair-splitting details while in others, omitting pertinent facts when you need them the most. It shifts from presenting information as if you were born yesterday (coupled with those pedantic details) to a presentation geared toward a reader who already has a knowledge-base of a rocket scientist or cardiac surgeon. This seems to be due to a disconnection between the authors of the book and the readers - the firefighter/EMT in the field.The book appears to have been thrown together with the agenda of flaunting its intellect and association with the AAOS (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons) instead of communicating and teaching the skill of Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured. I find the book frustrating. I wish my on-line EMT course would find a better book to use. Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured is almost useless without a teacher (who learned from a different source) to decipher and present the information in a more learning-friendly way.This book's next revision would be well served to find a good firefighter/paramedic/writer to help edit its content.

This book... this book is so awesome words cannot describe. Terry Pratchett is an evil genious and contributed to what is quite possibly the greatest RPG system ever made. But you want to know what the best part of this book is? You don't even need a copy of GURPS because it has GURPS lite in the back, making it a fully standalone system/setting!

GURPS Discworld, I must say, is chock-full of interesting information about the Disc. This alone is a good reason to buy it. I'm not familiar with the GURPS system- or I wasn't before I got this, anyway- but it was still very readable.However, I'd recommend reading the Introduction to GURPS at the back first, if you're also relatively unfamiliar with the system. It'll help.I honestly bought this book half for the illustrations. These were well worth it, as they are of wonderful quality and great quantity. There's also character stats, which is great fun.I haven't actually used this book to RP with, since I don't know anyone else who likes Discworld, so I can't judge it on that front. SJGames had disappointed me before with their attempts to adapt things for GURPS (the World of Darkness adaptations, in particular), but i could have read Gurps: Discworld, ignorign the rules, and still have laughed my ass off, marvelling at the imagination of Prachett and the beauty with which they condensed a huge (14 book) novel series into about 200 pages of humour, drama, adventure, and yes, stats. this is, of course, not to mention the absolutely GORGEOUS art littered about the insides. i don't know where they found Bill Kidby, but i hope they paid him enough to keep him interested in doing more work for Steve Jackson. basically, if oyu want a good sourcebook for the Discworld, well...world, if you want a book full of fabulous (and hilarious) fantasy art, or even if you want another GURPS book, make this it.

These books come frequently enough and belong to a universe of books that you can't possibly run out of stories.My hat is off to Martha and Michael. Bravo!

When I got this book, I was already a fan of the Klingon language (enough to say {tlhIngan Hol vIjatlhlaH, 'ach vIjatlhlaHchu'be'.}), so I was certainly expecting that I'd enjoy it, as I did "The Klingon Dictionary" (TKD).However, what I was not expecting was that I'd enjoy much, MUCH more than TKD.TKD is a very fun book, and a very good starting point for anybody who's interested in the Klingon language. However, it is basically a book of grammar - a reference book - and thus it is at times a bit dry. The sort of book that you pick up, learn something from, smile and put down."Klingon for the Galactic Traveler" (KGT) is something quite different; it's a well-written, well-thought-out, imaginative crash course into Klingon culture, and one heck of a page-turner!Prior to reading this book, I was of the belief that while Marc Okrand was a great linguist, he wasn't really all that invested in Klingon culture. Boy, was I wrong; not only does the book show his familiarity with all that Klingons had done on-screen up until that time, but it's also the sort of book that I'd like all future Trek writers (including fanfic:ers) to read (along with Ford's "The Final Reflection") before they incorporate Klingons into their stories, to provide a deeper cultural background to their characters.This and "The Klingon Way" are probably the two of Okrand's books that I'd recommend even to ordinary Trekkies who are interested in Klingons but aren't really out to learn the language. There are certainly some parts that cater quite specifically to us Klingon-speakers, but even if I weren't a jatlhwI', I expect I'd still give this book 4/5 stars.Also, if you do read it, you'll probably pick up some {tlhIngan Hol} without really trying, sense it's weaved into the text.

If you are interested in learning the Klingon language, there are two reference that you must have at minimum. The first is the Klingon dictionary The Klingon Dictionary (Star Trek). You will not find a comparable reference on line. The second is this book. This book links the Klingon language to Klingon culture. Since language and culture are intimately intertwined, you cannot fully understand one without the other. I also think in general, you will enjoy Marc's writing style. From it you will get the impression that Klingons are real (at least for us, their language is!). Klingon is currently the second most popular conlang (comstructed language; the first most popular is Esperanto), and there are many creative works (including an opera) in Klingon. So, here's an excuse to start learning Klingon! QaQ jaj! (good day!)

Really amazing contribution to the Klingon corpus. I wonder if Okrand just had fun with his subsequent Klingon books. This one is more of a sociolinguistic romp, whereas "The Klingon Way" lists Klingon proverbs of note, a real monument to invented languages in fiction and a delight of human thought.

I liked that the book is treated as any language book is treated with phases to use and also talking about how there are different dialects in different parts of the Klingon world.

I would recommend it for linguistics hobbyist.

A somewhat of a joke gift to my wife, but we both actually really enjoy it and are having fun with the book... We're looking forward to pulling out one of our Star Trek DVDs and seeing if we can follow the Klingon. Good little book. Kapla!

Edie Greene is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, where she also serves as Director of the Graduate Concentration in Psychology and Law. The book has a lot of insightful and empirical information. That is not the problem at all with this book. If the book was simply that plus expert opinions, then it would be excellent. The problem with this book is that the authors have a high opinion about themselves and their profession and express it several times during the book. It is clear they look down on the legal system and the people involved. Also, the chapters are dense. They try and squeeze in every possible piece of information into one chapter. As psychologists, the authors should know that the people this book is intended for will tune out and miss salient points. Based solely on empirical research, this book is very solid.

This is a required textbook for my Psychology and the Law class. So far, we are 5 chapters into the book, so I feel I can give a fairly decent review.The content of the text is interesting, well-researched, and well-supported. There are explanations of basic concepts and terms for those of us who did not study psychology in undergrad. At the end of each chapter, there is a short summary of the "big ideas" you should have gleaned from the chapter. The only negative I have encountered thus far is that the organization seems a bit, well, willy-nilly. The organization does not always make sense to me, and it feels like some of the information is needlessly repeated.However, compared to the casebooks I've been dealing with since the first year of law school, this text is AWESOME.
